Strathaven Choral Society
Fiona's musical talent showed itself from an early age when she started taking piano lessons with her mother, before going on to attend the Music School of Douglas Academy. She won many piano competitions and a scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Music, London, where she graduated with a teaching diploma and a degree in performance.
Fiona's musical career took her to every corner of the globe, but after settling back in Scotland she made a dramatic career change and became a fully operational fire-fighter - a move which generated much surprise and media interest. Her love of diversity also led her to qualify as a registrar of marriages and a professional chef. However Fiona's first love never fell by the way-side and she continued to teach, accompany and give charity concerts.
After retiring from the fire service in 2006 Fiona moved back to her home town of Carluke and took up the post of organist at St.John's Church. Fiona has been the accompanist for the Choral Society since January 2008, and despite moving to Edinburgh with her new husband in August 2009, continues to attend the Monday night practises in Strathaven.
