Strathaven Choral Society is a lively mixed-voice choir performing mainly classical works. Our major concerts generally take place in May, and either November or December each year, with occasional variations or additional events. We also host a seasonal performance of Christmas Carols and festive fun every December.
Our members come from all over Lanarkshire and beyond. Rehearsals are held on Monday nights at 7.30pm during the concert season in the Strathaven Evangelical Church, 12 Lethame Road. [map] We always welcome new members (particularly Tenors - male and female!) If you would like to join us, please don’t be shy. The choir is available for hire at weddings and other functions. There is also a smaller, very experienced group called the Strathaven Singers who can provide up to twelve voices plus accompanist, for a lower fee. All proceeds go to choir funds.

2011’s choir activities came to an end with our Christmas concert on Sunday 18th December in the Rankin Church, Strathaven. We were joined by the children of St. Patrick’s Primary School choir in an evening of festive celebrations for all the family. The event was rounded off in the traditional way with mince pies and shortbread accompanied by warming drinks for the adults and soft drinks for the children.

We are looking forward to this year’s celebrations of our 40th anniversary. Following on from our past visits to Denmark and Sweden, we have been bitten again by the musical travel bug. This time we will be heading for Barcelona!
Our performance of Ein Deutsches Requiem by Johannes Brahms took place on 4th December in St Mary’s Episcopal Church, Hamilton. You can view a pdf copy of the full concert programme here. (Please note it can take several minutes to download.)

We performed “Carols by Candlelight” at the New Lanark Mill Hotel on Thursday 15th December. The photo above shows us greeting the dinner guests with traditional carols as they arrived and sipped their glasses of mulled wine, before moving to the Mill Restaurant upstairs.
